Lunchtime Club for 11 to 14 year olds

Know me now!

Topic:

Life & Living (Friendship, Trust, Choices)

Theme:

Getting to know yourself, your friends and family, but most important, getting to know God!

Plan:

Icebreaker - Real Identity! (5 minutes)

This is a great "getting to know you" and memory game.

Get everyone in a circle and each person takes a turn saying their name and something about themselves. For example: "Hi, I'm John and i play football".

The next person needs to say the previous person's name and item of interest before saying their own, for example: "He's John, he plays football and I'm Mary and i like to dance".

As this game moves on, people need to remember more and more information. With bigger groups you can have them only repeat the names to help if they are struggling.

Game - Wink Murder (5 minutes)

Get everyone sat in a circle. Choose a "detective" to go out of the room.

Amongst everyone remaining choose a "murderer". Call the detective back in and get them to stand in the middle of the circle.

The murderer then has to wink at people in the circle, without the detective noticing.

When the "victims" are winked at, they have to do an elaborate death, and fall over onto the floor. Once murdered, the student must stay dead for the entire game.

After each murder has occurred, the detective is allowed one guess as to who the murderer is.

If the detective is wrong three times in a row (in other words, three different murders have taken place), the murderer wins the game.

If the detective guesses correctly within the three rounds, the detective wins.

You can repeat the game several times to allow different young people to assume the various roles.

Thought (5 minutes)

Read from the Bible - John 15:12-17.

Continue the session with a group discussion focusing on the following questions:

*What does it mean to love other people?
*How could we practically love people around us?
*Can you give any examples of people loving one another?
*How does verse 13 make you feel?

Say

Knowing God is one of the most amazing things in the World. God commands us to love other people as we were first loved by Him. What would the world look like if people loved one another? Would there be fighting, war or bullying? Love is greater.

Finish the session off with a prayer.
